The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, following a court ruling on the party’s candidate.
Newsonspot gathered that the decision was announced in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Interim National Working Committee, Ini Ememobong.
The party’s decision followed the Court of Appeal’s ruling upholding the nomination of Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as the PDP candidate for the election.
The PDP maintained that the nomination access code involved in the case was only an administrative requirement and could not override statutory provisions governing the electoral process.
However, the party expressed concern that the judgment came too close to the election to allow its candidate sufficient time to campaign effectively.

“Though justice has finally been done, in this case the grant of justice is akin to a denial as there is no opportunity for our candidate to undertake campaigns in preparation for the elections,” the party said.
The PDP also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias, alleging that the electoral body deliberately frustrated its candidate’s participation in the election.
Following consultations with key stakeholders, the party said its Interim National Working Committee resolved to support Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The development places the PDP behind Adeleke despite the earlier legal battle over its own candidate, as political parties and candidates intensify efforts ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll in Osun State.
