The Lagos State Government has called on motorists to adopt responsible parking habits ahead of the introduction of a structured on-street parking programme designed to improve traffic flow, safety and orderliness across the state.
Newsonspot reports that the appeal was made by the General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a more organised and efficient parking management system in Lagos.
According to Adelabu, motorists should begin making parking arrangements an essential part of every journey by considering available approved parking spaces before leaving home.
She advised residents to plan their trips carefully by thinking about their destination, choosing the most suitable means of transportation and identifying the nearest approved parking locations in advance.
“Parking should become a pre-thought, not an afterthought,” she said, urging drivers to embrace a new parking culture that supports better traffic management across the state.
Adelabu also disclosed that LASPA is ready to commence the enhanced on-street parking initiative after completing extensive planning, testing and improvements to the system.
Under the new programme, designated streets across Lagos will be clearly marked to indicate approved parking areas, paid parking zones and locations where parking is prohibited.
She urged motorists to pay close attention to traffic signs and road markings, including red lines, single yellow lines and double yellow lines, explaining that they are meant to improve road safety and ensure smoother traffic movement.
The LASPA boss noted that many Lagos residents are already familiar with paying for parking in different parts of the city, stressing that the new initiative will introduce a transparent and accountable payment system that eliminates unregulated collections.
She explained that the reform is aimed at ensuring parking fees are collected through an organised system that benefits the public while promoting accountability.
Adelabu appealed to all motorists to support the initiative by complying with parking regulations, obeying traffic signs and embracing responsible parking practices.
She added that public cooperation would play a vital role in the success of the programme and help create a safer, more accessible and better-organised Lagos.
