The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of its Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Newsonspot reports that the closure is in observance of the annual US Labour Day holiday, which is celebrated on the first Monday of September.
As a result, routine consular services, including visa-related activities, will be suspended at both diplomatic missions for the day. Members of the public with scheduled appointments are advised to take note of the closure and plan accordingly.
The US Mission said the holiday is part of its official 2026 public holiday calendar, which includes holidays observed in both the United States and Nigeria.
The announcement comes shortly after the US Embassy disclosed that, effective August 1, 2026, routine visa processing in Nigeria was moved to the US Consulate General in Lagos.
Normal operations are expected to resume after the Labour Day holiday.
