Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public service workers across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Newsonspot reports that the declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and shared on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the circular, the decision is aimed at giving workers who need to travel enough time to return to their polling areas and participate in the election.
The government stated that the directive covers all categories of public workers, except those involved in emergency and other essential services.
Meanwhile, Adeleke has urged workers, their relatives, friends and other residents to come out in large numbers to vote and protect their votes during the election.
In a pre-election message, the governor commended organised labour and Osun workers for their support for his administration, describing the relationship between the government and workers as mutually beneficial.
Adeleke also called on state workers to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional groups to participate actively in the election.
He urged residents to remain committed to defending their constitutional rights, stressing that the election provides an opportunity to sustain what he described as the achievements of his administration.
“We must defend the gains of the last three and a half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” Adeleke said.
