President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning following the death of brave Nigerian Air Force personnel in an aircraft crash.
Newsonspot reports that the President, in a statement, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the loss as a painful moment for Nigeria’s Armed Forces and the entire nation.
Tinubu said the fallen personnel had dedicated their lives to protecting the country, noting that their sacrifice would never be forgotten.
“Behind every uniform is a family. A spouse, a child, a parent, a brother or sister who expected their loved one home. Nigeria grieves with them,” the President said.
As part of the mourning arrangements, the President directed that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country for three days in honour of the fallen officers and personnel.
President Tinubu disclosed that the Chief of Air Staff had briefed him on the incident and directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
According to him, the investigation is necessary to establish what led to the accident and help prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The President also commended the Nigerian Air Force for promptly activating a search-and-rescue operation following the crash.
While mourning the loss of the military personnel, President Tinubu honoured their commitment and service to Nigeria and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.
“We honour their service. We remember their sacrifice. May the souls of our departed heroes rest in peace,” he said.
