Osborn Nweze Umahi, son of Works Minister David Umahi, has emerged as the new Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State after contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Newsonspot reports that the 28-year-old won the local government election following a campaign built around grassroots development, economic growth and better administration.
But shortly after his victory was announced, Umahi made an unusual pledge: he would not collect his official salary and allowances throughout his tenure.
He explained that the move would allow more funds to be directed towards projects and programmes that would have a direct impact on the people of Ohaozara.
Umahi said his administration would focus on infrastructure, youth empowerment, job creation and expanding economic opportunities for residents.
He also promised to improve the delivery of basic services and strengthen grassroots governance across the local government.
During his campaign, Umahi advocated a more effective role for local governments in solving the daily challenges faced by residents.
He said he would bring private-sector principles, including efficiency, innovation and accountability, into the administration of the council.
The new chairman further pledged to create opportunities for young people while working to improve the economic and social conditions of residents.
