Nigeria’s entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Rev. Davis Ofor, widely known for his iconic role as Clarus in the classic NTA sitcom New Masquerade.
Newsonspot reports that the sad news was announced on Tuesday, April 7, by fellow actor Tony Akposheri, who famously played the witty and troublesome Zaky in the beloved series.
In an emotional tribute shared via Instagram, Akposheri revealed that he and Ofor spent their last Christmas Eve together, reminiscing, laughing, and speaking with hope about the future – unaware it would be their final moments.
“Veteran actor Davis Ofor, fondly known as our own Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” he wrote while sharing photos from their last meeting.
Ofor’s portrayal of Clarus endeared him to millions of Nigerians, making him one of the most memorable faces of early television in the country. At a time when family sitcoms dominated the airwaves, his humor brought joy into homes and cemented his legacy across generations.

Although the cause of his death has not been disclosed, tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, fans, and admirers who remember him as not only a talented actor but also a warm and lively personality.
Akposheri described the late actor as more than a colleague – calling him a friend, a brother, and a man whose presence lit up every room.
“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead,” he wrote. “None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”
Reflecting on their bond, he added that knowing Ofor personally was a gift he would always cherish.
Rev. Davis Ofor’s passing marks the end of an era for many Nigerians who grew up watching New Masquerade, a show that defined comedy and storytelling in its time.
Though he is gone, the laughter and joy he brought to audiences remain timeless.
