Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, securing a fresh mandate to lead the state for another term.
Newsonspot reports that the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared the result at about 7:24am on Sunday after the collation of results from across the state.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election.
Adeleke recorded victories in several local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji, however, won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun.
According to the figures announced by the returning officer, 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 985,079 valid votes were recorded. The total votes cast stood at 1,005,800, with 20,721 votes rejected.
Following the collation and signing of results by agents of participating political parties, Prof. Ogunwole formally declared Adeleke the winner, stating that he had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned elected.

The declaration triggered celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters in parts of Osun State, particularly in Osogbo, as the governor secured another mandate to continue governing the state.
