Suspected gunmen attacked a Benue Links commercial bus on Sunday evening, June 22, 2025, along the Otukpo-Otukpa road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Newsonspot reports that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Eke village, causing panic in the area.
The bus, registered as 14B-143BN, was transporting travelers when it was ambushed by the armed assailants. According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen forcefully stopped the vehicle, robbed the passengers of their belongings, and then marched them into the surrounding bush.

APC Chairman Triggers Swift Security Response
Comrade Austin Agada, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, arrived at the scene shortly after the attack. Recognizing the severity of the situation, he immediately alerted security agencies.
Thanks to his swift action, both military and police units were quickly mobilized to the area to begin search-and-rescue operations.
Rescue Efforts Ongoing
As of the time of this report, efforts are actively underway to locate and rescue the abducted passengers. Security forces are combing the area in search of the victims and their abductors.
This incident has renewed concerns over rising insecurity on Nigeria’s highways and the safety of commuters in the region.
