A South African man has expressed concern over the sharp decline in patronage of nightlife businesses, street vendors and informal traders across parts of the country.
Newsonspot reports that in a video shared on social media, the man showed several business districts appearing unusually deserted, with many shops and entertainment spots recording little or no customer activity.
According to him, the downturn in business followed recent xenophobic attacks targeting Black foreign nationals and the closure of several foreign-owned businesses in some communities.
He argued that the attacks and the resulting displacement of foreign traders have negatively affected local economic activities, particularly businesses that rely on vibrant nightlife and informal commerce.
The development comes after several African nationals accused of being illegal immigrants were reportedly expelled from South Africa on June 30, a move that drew widespread criticism from many African leaders and observers.
