The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a disturbing incident involving the delivery of live ammunition to the residence of the Managing Director of First Bank, Oluwasegun Adebiosu.
Newsonspot reports that the development was made public by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday.
According to the police, the incident occurred on May 7 when an unidentified dispatch rider delivered a sealed envelope to Adebiosu’s residence in Lagos. Security personnel attached to the residence reportedly received the parcel as part of routine duties before handing it over to the bank executive.
Upon opening the envelope, Adebiosu allegedly discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside. Authorities revealed that the package contained no written message, threat note, identification details, or any information capable of revealing the sender’s identity or motive.
The absence of any accompanying communication has raised serious concerns among security agencies, prompting an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the delivery.
Commissioner Tijani described the incident as a serious security matter and confirmed that detectives have been assigned to unravel the mystery behind the parcel.
“Upon opening the envelope, the First Bank Managing Director discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside,” the police commissioner stated.
He added that investigators are working to identify and locate the dispatch rider who delivered the package, trace the source of the ammunition, and determine whether the act was intended as a threat, intimidation tactic, or part of a larger criminal operation.
“A thorough investigation is actively underway to unmask the identity of the dispatch rider, trace the source of the ammunition, and determine the motive behind this threat,” Tijani said.
The unusual incident has sparked concern within security and financial circles, given the prominence of the First Bank chief executive and the sensitive nature of the materials discovered.
Security experts have noted that the unexplained delivery of live ammunition could be interpreted as an attempt to send a threatening message, although investigators have yet to establish any definitive motive.
The police command assured the public that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of the bank executive while investigations continue. Authorities also pledged to bring anyone found responsible for the incident to justice.
As part of ongoing efforts, investigators are expected to review surveillance footage, dispatch records, and other intelligence sources that may provide clues about the sender and the purpose of the parcel.
