Digital payment platform, OPay, has dismissed a viral report claiming that it would suspend operations from September 1, 2026.
Newsonspot gathered that the report, which circulated widely across social media, alleged that the fintech company would temporarily shut down its services and stop processing transactions and account-related requests.
It also advised customers to withdraw their funds before the alleged shutdown, sparking concerns among users of the platform.
However, OPay has described the report as false and malicious, assuring customers that there was no plan to suspend its operations.
In a statement shared on its social media platforms on Sunday, the company said: “OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!”
The fintech company urged customers to be cautious about information circulated on social media, particularly claims concerning their money, accounts and access to financial services.
OPay stressed that its official communication channels remained the appropriate sources for verifying information about any changes to its services.

The company also pointed out that the viral message contained several indications that it was not an authentic communication from OPay.
“True OPay users know how to identify our official communications. Take a closer look at the viral post, and you’ll spot the red flags,” the company said.
OPay further urged members of the public not to circulate unverified claims, warning that false information could cause unnecessary panic among customers.

The company advised users to always verify the authenticity of financial-related information before acting on or sharing such messages.
“Always verify before you share. Filter the noise! Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates,” it added.
