OPay Eyes NGX Listing As $4bn US IPO Plans Take Shape…

OPay is reportedly considering listing its shares on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), as the fintech company also prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO) in the United States that could value the company at about $4 billion.

Newsonspot reports that a source familiar with the development said OPay has not made any official announcement regarding the proposed Nigerian listing but is currently weighing the possibility of offering its shares to investors on the local bourse.

Details of the potential NGX listing, including its timing, valuation, offer size and percentage of shares that could be offered, have not been disclosed.

It also remains unclear whether the Nigerian listing would take place alongside the proposed US IPO or form part of a dual-listing arrangement.

OPay has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading fintech companies, benefiting significantly from the rapid expansion of digital payments and financial technology services across the country.

According to an investment document, OPay processed $358 billion in gross transaction value (GTV) in 2025, representing a 115 per cent increase from the $166.2 billion recorded in 2024.

The company’s revenue also climbed by 161 per cent to $536.3 million in 2025, while operating income stood at $107.1 million, compared with an operating loss of $35.1 million recorded the previous year.

Nigeria contributed 88.1 per cent of OPay’s revenue during the period.

The reported consideration of a Nigerian listing comes amid increasing calls for major homegrown fintech companies to give local investors an opportunity to participate in their growth through the domestic capital market.

In August, the Chief Executive Officer of NGX Group, Temi Popoola, urged President Bola Tinubu to support measures that would encourage major companies to list on the Nigerian bourse.

Popoola specifically identified OPay and PalmPay among fintech companies reportedly considering overseas listings, stressing that Nigerian investors should also have the opportunity to benefit from the wealth created by such businesses.

Market analysts believe an OPay listing could rank among the most significant technology listings in Nigeria’s capital market if the plan materialises.

The fintech is also reportedly working with Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase on its proposed US IPO.

Meanwhile, OPay has dismissed a viral social media message claiming that the company would shut down operations from September 1, 2026.

The fintech described the report as false and urged customers to disregard the message.

The company advised users to verify information through its official communication channels before sharing or acting on messages circulating on social media.

With OPay now reportedly weighing a potential Nigerian listing while pursuing an overseas IPO, attention is expected to remain on how the fintech will structure its plans and whether Nigerian investors will eventually get an opportunity to own a stake in the company.
