Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Egor Constituency, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Newsonspot reports that the lawmaker was formally welcomed into the party on Thursday at the NDC national headquarters in Abuja by party leaders, including Seriake Dickson and other top officials.
Ahead of the official declaration, Osawaru had announced her intention to seek re-election in 2027 under the NDC platform. In a post shared on her Instagram page, she described the party as one dedicated to serving the interests of the people.
In a creative campaign move, the 31-year-old interpreted the party’s acronym, NDC, as “Natasha Don Come” in her campaign materials, sparking reactions online.
She expressed optimism that her new political affiliation and the support of her constituents would help usher in “a new Edo State.”
Osawaru also promised that if re-elected for a second term, her administration would focus on youth empowerment, improved welfare, adequate security, and good governance.
The Edo lawmaker has equally thrown her weight behind the presidential ambition of Peter Obi. Sharing a photo with the former Anambra State governor, she urged Nigerians to rise against oppression and support a new political direction.
Her defection to the NDC comes just days after Obi and several other prominent political figures reportedly aligned with the party.
