Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have successfully rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and APC governorship aspirant Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, during a tactical operation in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Newsonspot gathered that the rescue operation, carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, followed days of sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated security efforts. According to police sources, the victims were freed alive after security operatives engaged members of the kidnapping gang in a gun battle.
During the confrontation, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while two firearms were recovered from the criminals. Authorities said the intense tactical pressure forced the kidnappers into the encounter that ultimately led to the victims’ rescue.
Security agencies have continued combing surrounding areas for other members of the syndicate, with reports indicating that some escaped with gunshot wounds.
Mrs. John-Paul and her children were abducted around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while travelling to drop the boys at school in Ibadan. The incident sparked widespread concern and prompted intensified security operations across the state.

Before the rescue, Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, had appealed for public support and prayers while expressing confidence that the victims would be safely returned.
Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adelabu, reportedly retired voluntarily from First Bank Pension Custodian in 2025 before relocating to Ibadan with her children.
Following the abduction, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, visited Adebayo Adelabu and assured him that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the victims’ release. The governor also stated that his administration is strengthening the state’s security architecture to combat criminal activities.
The kidnapping occurred only weeks after the abduction of more than 40 students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that generated nationwide outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity.
