The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his recent remarks at the Presidential Villa, describing them as out of touch with the realities facing Nigerians.
Newsonspot gathered that according to the opposition party, the President’s comments reflected growing anxiety rather than confidence, especially at a time when citizens are grappling with rising hardship, insecurity, and economic uncertainty.
The ADC noted that millions of Nigerians are currently burdened by a severe cost-of-living crisis, marked by high food inflation, increasing debt, and declining purchasing power. It argued that instead of addressing these pressing concerns, the President chose to mock opposition voices.
The party also pointed to disturbing reports of insecurity, including incidents of abductions involving students at examination centres, as evidence of worsening safety challenges across the country.
Reacting to claims about its National Convention, the ADC dismissed suggestions that it was held improperly, insisting that any contrary narrative may have come from misinformation. The party further argued that even if opposition groups are forced to operate outside traditional venues, Nigerians would understand due to what it described as shrinking democratic space.
It criticised the government for allegedly restricting access to public facilities such as Eagle Square, which it said should remain open to all political actors, not just those in power.
The ADC also raised concerns about the separation of powers, accusing the President of overstepping by commenting on legal and judicial matters while serving in the executive arm. It further claimed that key democratic institutions, particularly the legislature, have been weakened under the current administration.
In addition, the party described recent political moves toward supporters of Muhammadu Buhari as inconsistent, suggesting they were driven by electoral considerations rather than genuine alignment.
Reaffirming its position, the ADC stated that Nigeria’s core challenges remain unresolved, with hardship increasing, insecurity spreading, and hope diminishing among citizens. The party emphasised its commitment to offering a credible alternative focused on competence, security, economic prosperity, and democratic freedom.
