Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has commended the Super Eagles for their resilience and determination despite their loss at the Semi-final of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Newsonspot reports that Nigeria were defeated on Wednesday, January 14, after losing 4-2 on penalties to host nation Morocco in a dramatic semi-final that ended goalless after 120 minutes of intense action.
Reacting to the defeat, Obi praised the players for their courage and commitment, describing the encounter as a “battle well fought.” He applauded the Super Eagles for delivering what he called “a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play,” noting that the team gave their best against strong opposition.

In a message shared after the match, Obi encouraged the players to keep their heads high, stressing that their performance had made the nation proud.
“You showed your strength and prowess against all odds. The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud,” he said.
Obi also urged the team to remain focused as they prepare for the third-place playoff, reminding them that there is still an opportunity to end the tournament on a positive note.
“The Eagle never stops soaring. There is another stage, let’s go get that medal,” he added.
Following the semi-final defeat, the Super Eagles will now face Egypt in the third-place match as they aim to secure a bronze medal and wrap up their AFCON campaign on a high.
