Cristiano Ronaldo and his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, have officially tied the knot in a private ceremony in Cascais, Portugal.
Newsonspot reports that the wedding marks a major moment in the couple’s decade-long relationship and comes after days of intense speculation in the Portuguese media about where and when the ceremony would take place.
Ronaldo, 41, confirmed the marriage on Instagram by sharing a photograph of the couple’s hands showing their wedding bands. He captioned the post, “C ❤️ G.”
According to the Brunswick Group, which handles Ronaldo’s public relations, the ceremony was “private and intimate” and attended by the couple’s five children.
The wedding took place exactly one year after Rodriguez, 32, announced their engagement on Instagram.
From Madrid Meeting To Marriage
Ronaldo and Rodriguez first met in 2016 when she was working at a Gucci store in Madrid.
Rodriguez has previously described their first encounter as “love at first sight”, saying she immediately felt a strong connection with the football star.
In a 2025 interview with Vogue Arabia, she recalled experiencing “a sense of peace and an inexplicable energy” around Ronaldo, adding that it felt as though they had known each other forever.
Their relationship has since grown into one of the most recognisable celebrity partnerships in the world.
Together, Ronaldo and Rodriguez have reportedly built a combined social media following of more than 750 million people, giving them enormous influence beyond football and entertainment.
Why Cascais Was Chosen
Before the ceremony, Portuguese media reports had suggested several possible locations, including Sintra, outside Lisbon, and Funchal in Madeira, Ronaldo’s birthplace.
Speculation that the wedding would take place in Funchal even attracted hundreds of people to the city’s cathedral in anticipation of seeing the couple.
The cathedral had previously confirmed that no wedding ceremony for Ronaldo was scheduled there, although it said hosting such an event would have been an honour.
The couple eventually chose Cascais, an exclusive seaside resort about 30 kilometres west of Lisbon, where they own a villa.
Ronaldo And Georgina’s Expanding Empire
Beyond their relationship, Ronaldo and Rodriguez have developed a significant business and media profile.
Ronaldo remains one of the most celebrated footballers in history, having won the Ballon d’Or five times. He has also played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, and currently represents Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
Rodriguez has also established herself as a celebrity in her own right through fashion, social media and her Netflix series, I Am Georgina, which offers viewers a look into her family life, fashion interests and travels.
The couple’s business interests reportedly include fashion brands and a chain of hotels, further expanding their influence beyond the football pitch.
After nearly a decade together, Ronaldo and Rodriguez have now taken another major step in their relationship, turning a romance that began in a Madrid fashion store into one of the world’s most closely followed celebrity unions.
