Former Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District, Godiya Akwashiki, is dead. He passed away at the age of 52 after a prolonged illness.
Newsonspot reports that a family source confirmed that the senator died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India. The confirmation was made on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State.
The source described Akwashiki’s death as a huge loss to the people of Nasarawa North, noting that he left behind a strong legacy of development and empowerment across the senatorial zone.
According to the family source, Senator Akwashiki was widely regarded as one of the most impactful senators the zone had produced, citing his purposeful leadership and numerous constituency projects spread across communities in the district.
He was also noted to be the only senator from Nasarawa North who successfully contested and won a second term, a feat attributed to his performance and connection with the people.
Before his election into the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki served as Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
Senator Godiya Akwashiki was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
