A tragic scene unfolded at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill in Benin City after a 14-year-old boy, identified as Prosper, allegedly stabbed his friend, Osamede Osagbovo, to death during a quarrel over money.
Newsonspot reports that both boys were said to be working as touts, helping passengers with their luggage and soliciting fares from motorists. According to Daily Trust, they had just earned N2,000 from the day’s work when a disagreement broke out. Prosper reportedly refused to share the money equally, insisting he had done more work than Osamede.
The argument quickly escalated into a physical fight. Eyewitnesses recounted that in the heat of the scuffle, Prosper dashed to a nearby spot, picked up a bottle, and stabbed his friend. Osamede collapsed instantly and died on the spot before help could reach him.
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), who were on patrol in the area, intervened immediately. Prosper was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Confirming the development, ESSC Deputy Commander Richard Balogun stated that the suspect has been transferred to police custody as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
