Ride-hailing company Uber is set to end its operations in Nigeria on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, bringing its 12-year presence in the country to a close.
Newsonspot reports that the company disclosed the decision in an email to users, explaining that it followed a “thorough review” of its business operations in Nigeria.
Uber launched its services in Lagos in 2014 and went on to become one of the country’s major ride-hailing platforms, connecting passengers with independent drivers.
In its message to customers, the company said it had made the “tough decision” to wind down its Nigerian operations effective September 2, 2026.
Uber thanked Nigerians for trusting and using its platform over the years, noting that the service had been part of users’ daily commutes, family visits and movement around the city.
The company also acknowledged that its exit could disrupt customers’ routines and apologised for the inconvenience.
The development marks a major change in Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry, where Uber has competed with other major platforms for more than a decade.
Meanwhile, Uber advised customers with outstanding account-related enquiries to contact the company before September 23, 2026, which it set as the deadline for submitting final enquiries as it completes the process of winding down its Nigerian operations.
