Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, has been appointed Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Newsonspot reports that Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, assumed the position during Monday’s plenary following a reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal leadership.
Her appointment comes shortly after Blessing Agbebaku resigned as Speaker amid reported moves by some lawmakers to remove him from office. Yekini Idaiyi, representing Akoko Edo II Constituency, was subsequently elected as the new Speaker.
Before her latest appointment, Osawaru served as Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Reacting to her emergence, Osawaru described the new position as a responsibility and a trust rather than merely a political title.

She pledged to continue representing the interests of her constituents while contributing to the development of Edo State.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” Osawaru said in a statement shared on her Facebook page.
She added that democracy depends on constructive debate, accountability and the courage to speak up for ordinary citizens.
Osawaru also reaffirmed her commitment to her constituency, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the people of Edo State.
Her elevation was described as a reflection of the confidence placed in her by her colleagues and constituents, with her previous experience as Deputy Majority Leader cited as part of her leadership credentials.
Osawaru has also attracted public attention through her marriage to 2Baba. The couple got married in July 2025 following the singer’s separation from his former wife, Annie Macaulay Idibia, and later welcomed their first child together.
