Residents of Ariko Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State have accused the Nigerian Army of pressuring them to accept what they describe as a false claim about the rescue of abducted worshippers.
Newsonspot reports that the military had earlier announced that it foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 Christians abducted on Easter Sunday. However, members of the community have strongly rejected this claim, insisting that those abducted are still in captivity.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Joseph David Ariko, President of the Kuturmi Development Association (KUDA), said the pressure began after the community publicly debunked the army’s announcement.
According to him, the army has yet to provide any evidence to support its claims, including the identities or photographs of the alleged rescued victims.
“We were told that 31 people were rescued, but we have not seen them. We asked for names and pictures, but nothing has been provided,” he said.
Ariko further alleged that the military is attempting to protect its public image by compelling the community to validate the claim. He also expressed concern that security support could be withheld if the community refuses to comply.

Despite the army’s position, the community maintains that 36 worshippers abducted during the attack are still being held by kidnappers.
In a separate statement, community members identified the attackers as Fulani bandits and condemned what they described as misinformation surrounding the incident. They also raised alarm over threats allegedly directed at individuals who have spoken out.
The statement further revealed that Mark Bawa, Speaker of the Kachia Legislative Council, was reportedly suspended for supporting the community’s stance and speaking out against the army’s claims.
Reacting to the allegations, Onyinyechi Appolonia Anele, spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, requested specific individuals making the claims when contacted but did not confirm or deny the accusations.
As tensions continue, the situation highlights ongoing concerns about transparency, accountability, and security in conflict-affected communities across Kaduna State.
