Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Newsonspot reports that the incident occurred at an ECWA Church, where terrorists reportedly stormed the service and took several worshippers hostage. Acting on a distress call, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and, with the support of members of the Ariko community, pursued the attackers into the surrounding area.
According to a statement issued by the Army, the troops engaged the fleeing terrorists in a fierce firefight, overpowering them with superior firepower. The intense pressure forced the assailants to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical attention.
However, the operation also recorded casualties, as the remains of five victims who were k!lled by the terrorists were recovered at the scene.
Local sources, including a councillor representing Awon ward in Ariko district, confirmed that the attackers operated for nearly an hour before fleeing into the bush with their captives.

The Army noted that the fleeing terrorists likely sustained heavy casualties, citing visible blood trails along their escape routes. Troops have since intensified pursuit operations to track down the perpetrators, rescue any remaining captives, and ensure justice is served.
Additional personnel have also been deployed to the area to strengthen security presence and prevent further attacks.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Nigerian Army urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information, stressing that collective vigilance remains key to achieving lasting peace and security.
