The Lagos State Government has confirmed that no injuries were recorded following the collapse of a bungalow classroom block at Odokekere High School in Ikorodu.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement released on Friday by the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), the incident was described as regrettable. However, the committee reassured parents, students, and the general public that all students were safe and unharmed.
According to the statement, the collapsed structure had already been marked for removal as part of an ongoing plan to replace it with a larger and more modern classroom facility. The proposed project is aimed at addressing the school’s growing enrolment and improving the quality of learning spaces.

The committee explained that the planned demolition was intended to pave the way for a new classroom block capable of accommodating the increasing student population at the school.
To ensure academic activities are not disrupted, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that students be temporarily relocated to nearby schools while work progresses.
Officials of the SCRPS are expected to visit the school to conduct an on-site assessment. The findings from the inspection will guide the next steps, including arrangements for the immediate commencement of construction on a purpose-built classroom complex.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, functional, and modern learning environments across all public schools in the state.
