United Capital Group has held a solemn memorial service in honour of six colleagues who tragically lost their lives in the September 16, 2025 fire incident at Afriland Towers, the company’s Lagos headquarters.
Newsonspot reports that the ceremony, which took place at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together regulators, industry leaders, clients, partners, and the wider business community. The event symbolically paused activities across the capital market as sympathizers gathered to console the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with the organization.
To allow wider participation, the service was streamed live for those outside the country, while additional viewing centres were set up in Abuja and Port Harcourt, giving colleagues across different branches an opportunity to pay their respects.
The memorial opened with a heartfelt address by Group CEO, Peter Ashade, who led attendees in a moment of silence before delivering an emotional tribute. He reflected on the impact of the loss, shared personal memories of each of the departed, and offered words of comfort to their grieving families.

Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, CFR, also delivered a moving address, visibly emotional as he extended condolences and reaffirmed the unity and resilience of the United Capital and Heirs Holdings family during this difficult time.
The service featured tributes from family members, friends, and colleagues, who shared stories that highlighted the lives, legacies, and contributions of the deceased. Pastor Ituah Ighodalo provided words of encouragement and hope, while celebrated singer Timi Dakolo moved the hall with a stirring musical rendition, leaving guests in solemn reflection.
Described as a dignified and befitting tribute, the memorial underscored United Capital’s commitment to honouring the memory of its colleagues. The Group noted that though their passing leaves a deep void, their contributions and impact will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew them.
