The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified why it is withholding the Certificate of National Service (CNS) of corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, with state code LA/24B/8325.
Newsonspot reports that Ms. Uguamaye had alleged that the move was retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, recalling her viral TikTok video earlier this year in which she described Lagos as a “smelling state.”
In a statement posted on its official page, NYSC dismissed her claims as “entirely unfounded and false,” stating that the decision was based on “valid disciplinary reasons” unrelated to politics.

The scheme explained that Ms. Uguamaye was among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for various infractions. Specifically, her service year was extended by two months after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise – a sanction in line with the NYSC bye-laws.
“This extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case. The principle of equal treatment was applied as in all similar situations,” the statement read.
NYSC urged the public to avoid politicising the matter, stressing that certificate extensions for non-compliance have long been part of its operational practice.
Reaffirming its commitment to fairness and discipline, the scheme reiterated its slogan: Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve.
