The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN has announced that international runways 18R and 36L, at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos would be shut for repairs.
The Authority reaffirmed its dedication to safety, security, and comfort – its fundamental values – in the now-deleted post from Monday.
This is to inform the public that the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos will be closed for 8 weeks to carry out maintenance. All flight operations will utilize taxiway B-18L, it stated.
In a phone conversation with Channels Television, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, the FAAN spokesperson, confirmed the “temporary” shutdown of “one aspect” of the runway at MMIA.
Flight interruptions are not a part of this temporary closure, which is only to allow for repairs to be made to the runway. At the international (airport), flights are still being operated, she said.
According to the agency, taxiway B-18L will be used instead for all flight operations until the maintenance is done.
It would be recalled that late last year, FG restored airfield lighting on the Runway 18L of the MMA.
The critical infrastructure had been in a blackout in the last 14 years and an operational nightmare for night operations in and out of the domestic terminal.
