Passengers travelling from Lagos to Atlanta in the United States have been left frustrated after Delta Air Lines cancelled their flight twice within three days, leaving them uncertain about when they will finally reach their destination.
Newsonspot gathered that the affected travellers were booked on Delta’s Lagos-Atlanta service, flight DL9895, which was scheduled to depart from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on August 23, 2026.
However, the flight was cancelled on August 23 after passengers were reportedly informed that the disruption was caused by a mechanical problem.
Following the initial cancellation, travellers expected to continue their journey on a rescheduled flight. However, another setback occurred on August 25 when Delta cancelled the service again.
This time, the airline attributed the cancellation to limited crew availability.
In a message sent to affected passengers, Delta apologised for the disruption, stating: “We are sorry. Your flight DL9895 from Lagos (LOS) – Atlanta (ATL) was cancelled due to an issue that limited crew availability.”
The second cancellation has added to the difficulties faced by passengers who had already spent extra time in Lagos following the first disruption.
Some travellers may now have to rearrange hotel bookings, transportation and connecting flights, while others could face complications with work commitments, medical appointments, school schedules and other time-sensitive engagements in the United States.

The Lagos-Atlanta route is an important international connection, with Atlanta serving as a major aviation hub for passengers travelling to several destinations across the United States and beyond.
As a result, the repeated cancellation could affect not only passengers whose final destination is Atlanta but also those relying on connecting flights from the US city.
It was not immediately clear when the affected passengers would be accommodated on another Delta flight or what specific arrangements the airline was making to reduce the impact of the disruption.
Although Delta apologised for the latest cancellation, the message seen by this newspaper did not provide details on how long the crew-related problem would last or when passengers would be able to resume their journey.
Affected travellers are now awaiting further communication from the airline regarding alternative flights and rescheduling arrangements.
The repeated disruption has heightened concerns among passengers, particularly those whose travel plans involve fixed appointments, non-refundable bookings or connecting flights.
Passengers have urged the airline to provide clear information on alternative travel arrangements and ensure that adequate assistance is available while they wait to continue their journey.
For the affected Lagos travellers, the immediate priority remains securing alternative flights and completing their journey to the United States after two cancellations within three days.
