Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA World Cup title after edging defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a dramatic final that was settled in extra time at the MetLife Stadium in New York New Jersey on Sunday.
Newsonspot reports that the highly anticipated final lived up to expectations as both teams produced an entertaining contest filled with attacking football, disciplined defending and numerous scoring opportunities. However, neither side could break the deadlock during the regulation 90 minutes, forcing the match into extra time.
The decisive moment came in the second half of extra time when Spanish forward Ferran Torres found the back of the net with a composed finish, sending Spanish fans into celebration and securing a historic victory for La Roja.
Argentina, who entered the final as defending champions, pushed hard for an equaliser but were unable to break through Spain’s solid defence before the final whistle.

The tournament also marked a historic milestone as the first FIFA World Cup to feature 48 participating nations and was jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Although Argentina’s title defence ended in disappointment, the South American side once again demonstrated its quality and fighting spirit throughout the competition.
