Peter Obi and Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso are set to formally leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) despite earlier denials.
Newsonspot reports that this is in a move expected to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The formal declaration is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in Abuja, according to an invitation circulated to journalists via the NDC’s official media WhatsApp platform.
The duo will be received by the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, alongside the NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Party officials say the high-profile defections signal growing national confidence in the NDC, positioning it as a rising force ahead of the next general elections.
The development follows months of speculation about possible opposition realignments, with both Obi and Kwankwaso widely regarded as key contenders in the 2027 presidential race.
