Ikeja Electric Plc has explained the persistent power outages across Lagos, attributing the disruptions to reduced electricity allocation from the national grid.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the distribution company apologised to customers for the ongoing interruptions, noting that multiple areas within its network are affected by the supply constraints.
According to the company, the shortage has made it necessary to implement controlled rationing of electricity to maintain system stability. This includes temporary load shedding across various feeders and locations to ensure fair distribution of the limited power available.
Ikeja Electric added that it is actively engaging stakeholders across Nigeria’s power value chain to improve supply and reduce the impact of the outages on customers.
The situation reflects broader electricity challenges in Nigeria, where power shortages continue to affect Lagos and other regions. These issues are largely tied to gas supply constraints, which have significantly impacted power generation nationwide.
Despite recent efforts by state authorities to reduce reliance on the national grid, electricity supply remains unstable, leaving residents and businesses grappling with frequent disruptions.
