President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing Olawale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Ahmed Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Newsonspot gathered that the changes, communicated through an official memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, are aimed at strengthening governance and improving policy coordination across key ministries. The announcement was conveyed by the SGF’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga.
As part of the reshuffle, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Muttaqha Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development. The new appointments are expected to bring fresh direction to fiscal reforms, revenue generation, and housing development efforts.
The Federal Government has directed the outgoing ministers to begin immediate handover processes. This includes completing all documentation, transferring policy briefs and project reports, and working closely with permanent secretaries to ensure continuity. All handover and takeover activities must be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
According to George Akume, the reshuffle is part of broader efforts to improve efficiency in governance and accelerate the delivery of key government programmes. The move is also aligned with the administration’s strategy to reposition critical sectors to better address Nigeria’s economic and developmental priorities.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.
The Presidency noted that the decision was made in line with constitutional provisions, specifically Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower the President to appoint, reassign, or remove ministers.
