Nigeria’s Super Falcons have climbed to 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, reinforcing their status as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s football team.
Newsonspot reports that the newly released rankings show a slight improvement from their previous 37th place in December 2025, reflecting the team’s steady progress on the global stage.
This rise comes after two pre-WAFCON friendly matches against Cameroon Women’s National Team. The Falcons initially suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in February but bounced back strongly with an impressive 3-1 victory in March 2026.
In the second encounter, Nigeria displayed greater intensity and coordination. Chinwendu Ihezuo equalised in the 32nd minute with a well-placed header from a cross by Rinsola Babajide.
Just before halftime, Babajide found the net herself, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble to give Nigeria a 2-1 lead. The momentum continued into the second half, as Michelle Alozie sealed the win in the 64th minute with a powerful header from a cross delivered by captain Rasheedat Ajibade.
The victory added 3.35 points to Nigeria’s tally, bringing them to 1602 points in April, though still slightly below their December 2025 total of 1607 points.
On the African continent, Nigeria remains firmly ahead, with South Africa, Ghana, and Morocco trailing behind in 58th, 59th, and 62nd positions globally.
Meanwhile, on the global stage, Spain continues to lead the rankings, followed by the United States, England, Germany, and Japan, highlighting the competitive nature of women’s football worldwide.
