St. Anthony Grammar School Private has once again proven its dedication to academic excellence by clinching the overall first position at the prestigious ICAN ‘Catch Them Young’ Secondary School Competition for the South West Region.
Newsonspot reports that representing the school, Solomon Onogwu emerged victorious in the final round of the highly competitive event, earning a scholarship award and drawing admiration from both public and private sector leaders.
The competition kicked off with a rigorous preliminary stage involving 10 top schools from across the region. From the onset, St. Anthony Grammar School Private displayed remarkable skill and consistency, advancing to the grand finale with the highest preliminary score.
The grand finale, held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, featured five outstanding schools competing for the top honour. Contestants were tested on a wide range of subjects including Financial Accounting, Commerce, Economics, and Entrepreneurial Skills.
In the decisive round, participants faced a blend of high-pressure analytical tasks, impromptu speeches, and real-world problem-solving exercises. A major highlight was the essay writing and defense on the topic: “The Federal Government Tax Reform and its Economic Implications.”
It was in this segment that Solomon Onogwu distinguished himself, showcasing exceptional analytical depth, critical thinking, and communication prowess – ultimately leading St. Anthony Grammar School to victory.
His remarkable performance not only brought home the championship trophy but also earned him a personal scholarship for the Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) program. Recognized as a “guru of interest” by several government and private organizations, Solomon has been celebrated as a promising talent for Nigeria’s financial future.
The school administration commended both Solomon and the teaching staff for their commitment, describing the win as “a reflection of our passion for excellence and professionalism.”
