British Airways on Friday denied boarding to 58 passengers scheduled for its Abuja-to-London flight after a faulty aircraft door was discovered.
Newsonspot reports that according to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the decision was taken as a standard safety measure, requiring some seats to remain unoccupied.
The NCAA’s Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle, stating:
“They had to deny 58 passengers boarding this morning. Hotel accommodation has been provided, and 28 passengers opted to return home, while 30 accepted the offer. Affected passengers can file for compensation, and arrangements are being made to airlift them tomorrow morning.”
Achimugu further advised passengers to always reach out to NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminal in such situations to ensure their rights are protected.

While the move was in line with aviation safety protocols, some travellers have called on the NCAA to also inspect the interior condition of foreign aircraft operating in Nigeria.
