The Lagos State Government has introduced a new requirement for pupils and students seeking admission or enrolment into public and private schools across the state.
Newsonspot reports that beginning from Monday, September 14, 2026, schools will be required to obtain and record the valid registration number of every learner issued by the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
The directive, issued through the Office of Education Quality Assurance, followed approval by the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun.
Under the new arrangement, LASRRA registration numbers will form part of the admission documents and other official records maintained by both public and private schools.
The government has also directed school authorities to inform parents and guardians about the new requirement and encourage those whose children are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to the state government, the policy is aimed at developing a complete and reliable database of pupils and students living and attending schools in Lagos.
It said accurate learner data would assist the government in planning and managing the education sector more effectively.
The database is also expected to improve the monitoring of learners, strengthen school record-keeping and make it easier for relevant authorities to verify the identities of pupils and students across the state.
