The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has noted public reactions following the decision to discontinue the criminal charge against Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc.
This decision reflects the Attorney General’s unwavering commitment to justice, fairness, and the rule of law. In accordance with the constitutional powers vested in the Attorney General of the Federation, the decision to file a nolle prosequi-thereby discontinuing the prosecution-was made to prevent a miscarriage of justice.
Following a thorough review of the case, it became evident that Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe was neither the account officer nor the Managing Director at the time the account involved in the alleged fraudulent activity was opened. Therefore, no direct link was established between her and the alleged offence.
It is important to emphasize that the discontinuation of charges against Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe does not absolve Fidelity Bank Plc from the allegations contained in the pending criminal charge. The matter remains before the court and will proceed in accordance with due process.
The Attorney General remains steadfast in his duty to ensure that justice is served without fear or favour. All individuals and institutions found culpable will face the full weight of the law, as a deterrent to others.
The public is urged to refrain from speculation and to allow the legal process to take its full course.
