Fiona Ahimie has been elected as the 14th President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), making history as the first woman to lead the Institute in over three decades.
Newsonspot reports that her emergence marks a significant breakthrough for gender inclusion in Nigeria’s financial sector and has been widely applauded as a major step toward breaking long-standing barriers.
Ahimie succeeds Oluropo Dada, whose tenure was marked by key achievements and institutional reforms. She is set to be formally inaugurated on June 25.
Before her election, Ahimie served as the Institute’s 2nd Vice President and later as 1st Vice President, in line with CIS’s structured succession plan. Following her elevation, Akeem Oyewale has moved into the role of 1st Vice President, while a new 2nd Vice President will be announced in due course.
Dada expressed confidence in the new leadership, describing Ahimie as a seasoned professional with strong leadership qualities and a clear vision to advance the Institute’s role in the financial services sector.
An accomplished investment professional with over 15 years of experience, Ahimie currently serves as Managing Director of First Securities Brokers Limited, a subsidiary of First Holdco Plc. Her career spans leading institutions such as Lead Capital, Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers, FBNQuest Capital, and African Alliance Securities Nigeria, where she held senior roles in trading, client development, and market strategy.
She holds an MBA from Lagos Business School and a diploma from IESE Business School. Ahimie is also a Fellow of CIS and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, with memberships across several professional and corporate boards.
At the Institute’s 31st Annual General Meeting held in Lagos, Dada thanked members for their support during his tenure and urged them to extend the same cooperation to the incoming administration. He highlighted achievements under his leadership, including progress on the Corporate Strategic Plan (2024-2030), enhanced stakeholder collaboration, increased media visibility, restructuring of the Secretariat, and successful hosting of the 2025 National Workshop in Abuja.
Members of the Institute commended Dada for his impactful leadership while expressing optimism for Ahimie’s tenure as she prepares to steer the organisation into a new era.
