President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions around the world following their confirmation by the Senate in December.
Newsonspot reports that the announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the presidency, the President has directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence an induction and orientation programme for the ambassadors-designate ahead of their deployment to their respective countries.
Key Non-Career Ambassadorial Appointments
Among the notable political appointees is former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who has been posted to Mexico.
Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has been assigned as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.
Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Qatar.
Meanwhile, Jimoh Ibrahim, the senator representing Ondo South, has been appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The latest approvals build on earlier diplomatic deployments made in January, including the appointment of Lateef Kayode Are as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States and Ayodele Oke as ambassador to France.
According to the presidency, all ambassadors-designate will undergo mandatory induction and orientation programmes before departing for their respective diplomatic assignments.
