Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has been widely praised for his decision to complete abandoned and unfinished projects inherited from previous administrations instead of discarding them.
Newsonspot reports that since assuming office, he has focused on reviving critical infrastructure and public assets to drive economic growth and improve living standards in the state.
Several key projects that had been abandoned for years are now completed or undergoing major rehabilitation. These include the International Conference Centre (ICC), which had been left untouched since 2007, and the Hotel Presidential, which became moribund around 2012-2013 before being revived under Governor Mbah. Parts of the new state secretariat abandoned for years are also being completed, while major improvements are ongoing at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
Other revived projects include the SUMAS Teaching Hospital in Igbo-Eno, the Niger Gas project, Enugu United Palm Products, Sun Flour Mill, and several Type-3 healthcare centres across Uzo Uwani, Adani, Nara, and Agwu. Nsukka General Hospital and the Nsukka public water scheme have also been transformed, while water infrastructure across the state is being rehabilitated.
Tourism and leisure facilities such as Nike Lake Resort, Ngwo Pine Forest, Awhum Waterfall, and Akwuke Beach are being revitalised, alongside major infrastructure projects like the Enugu International Spare Parts and Allied Park, Awgu Games Village, and road projects in Eha-Amufu and Isi Uzo.
Governor Mbah’s administration has also revamped health facilities, including the Government House Clinic and the Enugu International Hospital, while the Ajali and Oji River Waterworks are being reconstructed to improve water supply. The ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, is also undergoing major transformation.
According to supporters, the state’s increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is not due to higher taxes but improved governance, accountability, and returns from revived projects such as the ICC, Hotel Presidential, and Enugu Air. These investments are now contributing significantly to the state’s revenue base.
Governor Mbah’s approach highlights a commitment to sustainable development, economic growth, and accountability, with the revival of abandoned projects forming a key pillar of his administration’s development strategy.
