Manchester City have booked a mouth-watering Carabao Cup final clash against Premier League leaders Arsenal after thrashing defending champions Newcastle United 5-1 on aggregate in a one-sided semi-final.
Newsonspot reports that Newcastle, who trailed 2–0 from the first leg, needed a remarkable turnaround in Wednesday’s return fixture at the Etihad Stadium. However, Eddie Howe’s side suffered an early setback when Omar Marmoush struck in the sixth minute to put City firmly in control.
Starting in place of Erling Haaland, Marmoush capitalised on a defensive lapse before his deflected effort looped over goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and into the net. The Egyptian forward doubled his tally on the half-hour mark, heading home from close range after sustained City pressure.
Despite brief moments of promise for the visitors, City remained ruthless. Goalkeeper James Trafford denied Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon with excellent close-range saves, and those missed chances proved costly. Moments later, Tijjani Reijnders pounced on a loose ball to slot home City’s third goal before half-time, effectively ending the contest.
Newcastle managed a consolation goal in the 62nd minute through Anthony Elanga, who curled in a fine strike. Harvey Barnes also had a goal disallowed, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Pep Guardiola’s side comfortably saw out the second half to secure their place in the Carabao Cup final, which will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 22 March. City will now face Arsenal in what promises to be an exciting showdown for the League Cup trophy.
