The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has rearrested an 80-year-old ex-convict, Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, barely three years after he completed a jail term for drug trafficking. Nkanta was apprehended on January 10, 2025, at Mmanta-Abak village in Akwa Ibom State, where operatives recovered 5.7kg of skunk from his residence.
Newsonspot reports that in a related operation in Akwa Ibom, NDLEA officers intercepted a 37-year-old businessman, Ani Onyebuchi Romans, on the Oron–Ibaka Road. A search of mannequins he was conveying for a supposed clothing business revealed 5.3kg of tramadol concealed inside. Investigations showed the drugs were purchased in Onitsha and destined for Cameroon.
Across Oyo State, multiple raids led to arrests and seizures, including the arrest of 45-year-old Remi Bamidele, also known as “Aluko the Mafia,” in Ibadan with over 10kg of various cannabis strains and two vehicles. Other suspects were arrested in different parts of Ibadan with drugs and cash exhibits recovered.
In Edo State, several suspects were arrested in Benin City, Irrua, and Ubiaja with quantities of Canadian Loud, Colorado, and skunk. Similar operations in Niger, Taraba, and Adamawa states led to the recovery of large consignments of tramadol and cannabis, with multiple suspects taken into custody.
Meanwhile, NDLEA commands nationwide sustained their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in schools and communities. Commending the officers involved, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the agency’s balanced approach to drug supply reduction and public sensitisation.
