Former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, was arrested on Wednesday at the after arriving in Abuja aboard a chartered flight.
Newsonspot reports that according to airport sources, Nnaji was taken into custody shortly after landing and is expected to be transferred to the (ICPC) for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation.
The arrest is connected to allegations that the former minister submitted questionable academic credentials while serving in public office. Investigators are probing claims that he presented academic records that were allegedly not authentic during his appointment process.
In June, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the ICPC permission to arrest Nnaji after he reportedly failed to honour several invitations for questioning. The court also authorised the anti-corruption agency to declare him wanted through public notices.
The investigation centres on claims that Nnaji submitted a degree certificate purportedly from the, along with (NYSC) documents, during his 2023 ministerial screening before the Presidency, the Senate and security agencies. The documents were later reported to have raised authenticity concerns.
Reports further indicate that Nnaji later acknowledged that the University of Nigeria did not issue him the degree certificate in question, a development that reportedly aligned with aspects of the investigation.
On June 18, the former minister filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal in Abuja, challenging the Federal High Court’s order authorising his arrest.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the ICPC nor Uche Nnaji had issued an official statement regarding the reported arrest.
