American music star and Grammy Award winner, Ciara Princess Wilson, joined Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Friday to ring the closing gong, officially marking the commencement of Lagos Fashion Week 2025.
Newsonspot reports that the international singer, who arrived in Lagos on Thursday for the four-day fashion celebration, expressed excitement about promoting Lagos’ unique culture and creativity on her global platform.
In a statement signed by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ciara said her visit was deeply personal and inspiring.
“I’m excited to be part of the mission to promote African fashion designs and will be using my platform to showcase the beauty of Lagos,” she said.
“This city has evolved beautifully. From the airport to the bustling streets, the energy and growth are incredible. Lagos truly inspires me.”
Ciara, known for her passion for fashion and artistry, added that Lagos Fashion Week provided a platform to celebrate creativity and innovation in Africa’s fashion scene.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who attended the event alongside members of the State Executive Council, described Lagos Fashion Week as a reflection of the city’s entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, which continues to position Lagos as a global hub for creativity, tourism, and investment.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting local designers and creatives, noting that Africa — and especially Nigeria — holds the key to driving the next wave of global economic growth.
“Lagos truly represents the dream of Nigeria and Africa. We are a city full of innovators and creators ready to change the world,” the Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the business and innovation dimensions of fashion, stating that the Lagos Fashion Week has become a bridge connecting local talent to international markets.
“Fashion Week brings together business, innovation, and creativity. It serves as a platform for our designers to scale globally,” he added.

The Governor later shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he hosted top designers, artists, and industry leaders at Lagos House, Marina, as part of the fashion week’s 15th-anniversary celebration, themed “In Full Bloom.”
“We were delighted to have Ciara join us. Her presence highlights Lagos’ growing global appeal as a hub of creativity and style,” he wrote.
The Lagos Fashion Week 2025 runs from October 29 to November 2, celebrating 15 years of spotlighting African fashion excellence and empowering designers to bloom on the global stage.
