The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
Newsonspot reports that the announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the holiday declaration underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the spiritual importance of Eid-ul-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful both at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a sacred season that reflects the virtues of sacrifice, obedience to God, love, and compassion for humanity.
The minister also encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of the holiday period to pray for national peace, unity, security, and economic progress.
He further urged citizens to embrace peaceful coexistence, strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, and promote harmony among people of different backgrounds during the celebration.
“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement noted.
The Federal Government equally wished Muslims across the nation a joyful, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling Eid al-Adha celebration.
