Nollywood has lost one of its respected veterans as Fabian Adibe, the legendary actor best known for his role in the classic television series Things Fall Apart, has passed away at the age of 81.
Newsonspot reports that the news of his death was confirmed by journalist and movie producer, Seun Oloketuyi, in a social media post on Wednesday. According to Oloketuyi, the actor died peacefully around 2:30 am on August 20, 2025.

Fabian Adibe, who celebrated his 81st birthday in December 2024, was a celebrated actor and television personality whose career spanned decades. Before venturing fully into acting in 1987 with the acclaimed adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, Adibe had already made his mark by leading Nigeria’s delegation to the first Commonwealth Art Festival in 1965.
He earned national recognition for his portrayal of Ogbuefi Uzowulu in Things Fall Apart, acting alongside industry icons such as Pete Edochie. His calm demeanor and powerful screen presence endeared him to audiences across generations, securing him a place in Nollywood history as one of its most revered talents.
Adibe’s death marks the end of an era, but his legacy as a pioneer of Nigerian film and television lives on through his unforgettable performances.
