In a compassionate move to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State, Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed essential food supplies and mattresses to over 2,000 victims of the Yelwata attacks.
The beneficiaries are currently taking refuge at the Ultra-Modern International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi.
The intervention was executed in collaboration with the Abbasid Charity Foundation under the bank’s flagship Fidelity Food Bank initiative – a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program that has delivered over 200,000 food packs across Nigeria since its launch in April 2023.
Speaking during the donation event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, reiterated the bank’s ongoing commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities.
“We are honoured to return to Benue State to continue our support through the Fidelity Food Bank,” he said. “This initiative is part of our mission to combat poverty and hunger nationwide, and we hope this gesture brings real relief to those affected.”
Also speaking, Mrs. Hawa Abbas, Executive Officer of the Abbasid Charity Foundation, highlighted the importance of restoring dignity to the displaced.
“No one should have to sleep on bare floors. The mattresses are a symbol of care, reminding our displaced brothers and sisters that they are not forgotten,” she said.
The Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. James Iorpuu, represented by Camp Manager Mr. Robert Nyom, commended Fidelity Bank and the Abbasid Foundation for their kindness.
“Your support has brought timely relief. We sincerely appreciate your compassion and commitment to improving the lives of our displaced citizens.”

This outreach in Makurdi marks another milestone in Fidelity Bank’s nationwide relief efforts. Earlier this year, the bank extended similar aid to over 1,500 flood-affected residents in Mokwa, Niger State, demonstrating its ongoing dedication to crisis response and social impact.
