A tragic road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos has claimed the life of a woman, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Newsonspot reports that confirming the incident on Tuesday, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed that the fatal crash occurred at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis of the bridge. The collision involved two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.
Preliminary findings revealed that the accident was caused by reckless driving, particularly excessive speeding, which led to a head-on collision between the vehicles.
Emergency responders from LASTMA acted swiftly after receiving the distress call, securing the scene and managing traffic flow to prevent further incidents. Officers from the Oworonsoki Police Division also arrived promptly to document the crash and begin investigations.
The victim, identified as a mother, died on the spot, while her 30-year-old daughter survived the impact. Authorities confirmed that the deceased’s body has been evacuated.
In the aftermath of the crash, one of the drivers fled the scene, while the other was apprehended and handed over to the police for further questioning.
Reacting to the incident, Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, emphasizing the importance of adhering to speed limits and traffic regulations. He reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order on Lagos roads.
