The United States is set to release limited-edition passports featuring the image of President Donald Trump as part of activities marking the country’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Newsonspot gathered that according to reports by Fox News and The Bulwark, the US State Department confirmed the special passport design, which will be available in limited quantities ahead of America’s July anniversary celebrations.
One of the new passport pages reportedly includes Trump’s official portrait superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, with his signature displayed in gold beneath the image. Another design features a historic painting of America’s Founding Fathers.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott announced the commemorative initiative on X, stating: “As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed US passports to commemorate this historic occasion.”
A State Department official, who spoke anonymously, revealed that the Trump-themed passports will be distributed only in Washington while supplies last and will come at no extra cost to applicants.
It remains unclear whether citizens applying for passports will have the option to decline the commemorative version.
Traditionally, passports around the world avoid featuring images of serving leaders, instead highlighting national monuments, historical moments, cultural heritage, or natural landscapes.
Current US passports already showcase iconic moments and landmarks from American history, including the Moon landing and the Statue of Liberty.
The move has sparked attention globally due to the unusual inclusion of a sitting president’s image in an official travel document, a practice rarely seen in modern democracies.
